Ideation

The goal of the ideation was to create some ideas that could be shown to Linda during the co-design session. As it was thought that comming up with ideas right there on the spot might prove to be overwhelming. Therefore ideation was done from which four different concepts followed. They can be seen in the second image. The different concepts worked in different ways and had their own pros and cons.

The first concept is "the frog". It's original idea was that there were two bars with screwthread. By using a handle the user could twist the bars and this would cause them to go up.

This final version of the concept works like a car jack, where the user can pump the handle and then get up from the ground. There is a seat that the user will sit on while doing this, which can be made more comfortable with a cushion. It has wheels on the bottom to make it more portable so that it can be used all around the house. The mechanism is the same as a hydraulic trolly car jack, which allows the hydraulic fluid to fill the chamber when the handle is pushed downwards. It can easily carry the weight of the person using it as it can also lift a car with ease. When the handle is twisted it makes the chair go back down again.

The Frog

The first concept is "the tree". The idea is that the user can grab the handles, and while going up they can move the handles up. This way the user does not have to reach up while using the product. The product would use a mechanism that allows the handles to go up, but blocks their path when they have to go upwards. The product would be made so it can fit in a small space around the house and can be stored easily.

The idea with this product would be that the user would have one in every room. So rather than making it so that it will be taken with them all around the house, they would have a new one within reach wherever they go.

The Tree

The third concept is the "U", which is named after the shape it has and the name is a play on the idea that it is made for YOU. It is a table or stool that can be flipped around when the user falls on the ground. It would then serve as a tool that helps them get up from the ground. It can be collapsed and stored away, maybe it could even be carried in a backpack.

It has a handle at the top that lets the user hold it while getting up. By using the handles the user can use more arm strenght to get up rather than having to use their legs. By adding a plate with heavy springs the product can add extra support to their legs as they push themselves upwards.

The third concept is the "CaneType". By using two hands the user can push themselves up without having to use their legs much. There is a plate which helps support the legs while they are making the upwards motion.

The design could be completely collapsable by making the plate move inwards, the bottom detach and the two round pieces would be attached using a bayonnet lock. This would make the product incredibly portable, so much so that it could even be carried in a backpack.

By doing research and conducting an interview there is now a better understanding of who and what the design is for and what problems it must offer a solution to. Based on this the process of ideation can begin, starting with rough shapes and ideas, and ending in 4 complete concepts.
